Leadville Yard

John McCutcheon
Can  anybody tell me what businesses were served by the C&S in Leadville besides mines. There was a large freight house and east bound switching to serve Climax. I am assuming some coal, lumber and lcl traffic but was that about it.

I think rather a lot of coal.  Did the smelters use anything else in quantity?

I would think the best source of information would be to find out what businesses were in Leadville in the 1920- 1940's. I have a booklet someone published with businesses that the Rio Grande serviced in Salt Lake and what they purchased. One item that did not get a lot of notice was hay, a lot of hay moved by rails as did barb wire, poles, etc.

One of the best lists of businesses in a city is a city directory. The Lake County library has directories on line up to 1909. A little early for your period. I am not sure where to get them from the1920's, maybe the library has them on the shelf just not scanned.
