Leadville, Colorado & Southern

Kurt Maechner
I always wondered how the Leadville, Colorado & Southern was able to get the whole railroad plus equipment and structures for $10.  My assumption was that it was an easy way for the Burlington Northern to get rid of a line that last saw a revenue freight in 1986.  It found it had more to do with the Amax Molybdenum mine.  I write about it here.

The LC&S was bought by a couple, Ken and Stephanie Olsen.  I found a 2014 article that stated that the railroad is presently owned and run by two of the Olsen's children.  Does anyone know if they are still the operators?  I tried to contact the railroad via their website asking this question and for some historical background but never got a reply.

Enjoy!
Kurt

South Park
There are those of us who think of railroads as aesthetic jewels upon
the landscape, placed there as part of a divine plan to make all things
right in the universe, ....  and rightly so !

....  and then there are those business people who see (and annoying
always seem to run/own said railroads) who see them as (and only as)
a means to a profit, and then satanically see nothing wrong with dumping
them, or scrapping them out, should said profits cease to be in the fore-
cast.

Had only the former group seized control of the DSP&P in 1885, this
world would be a much better place today.
