They seem to do low level high altitude training up here.

But not in the winter, guess they have too much sense to do that.

The rest of the world is no longer cut off, US285 has reopened, a trip to Fairplay and maybe a beer is in order.

Do you ever get any visitors that have flown in the crews?

Great photo, Chris!

Looks to be sometime 1905-1910. That front helper engine parked over on the left siding has a 4 dogged smoke box front, suggesting it's a Rhode Island. Wonder if it's number 60?

That little frame house with the split-rail corral is just at the left frame. Wouldn't you have loved to spend some time there, sitting on the front porch, watching 3 or 4 engines put together yet another drag freight of Baldwin coal and whistle off for Alpine?

Jim:
Love that picture. A while back the Pitkin station was for sale. We though about it as the price was quite reasonable. I think it came with an acre or two plus it had a couple of rr looking outbuildings.

What is "reasonable" ?  I remember it being for sale 10-15 years ago
and about choked at the asking price.  I think it was 500K or something (?)
To me anyway, that seemed mighty steep for a little "house", a long way
from any income possibilities to pay a mortgage !  Maybe that isn't so out
of line for the area ?  I remember houses in Antonito were stupidly high
for a place with the lowest income levels in the U.S..
