Re: Jefferson General Store

I also did an exercise trying to convince myself I could use mineral red or dark grey for the trim.  The experiment is based on Chuck Doan's fabulous Red Oak Garage.

I think all 3 colours work, but I still like the feel of the chocolate best.  Be interested in what ya'all think, though....

Cheers,
Jeff.

Jeff,

I vote for the chocolate, both the color and the food.

Given the time period, Mineral Red trim would seem to be more likely to me. But the Chocolate trim is more pleasing.

My 2 cents worth.

May I suggest the red with a light dry brush of the grey over?

Re: Jefferson General Store

It occurred to me last night that I was forgetting scale colour (colour perception greys with distance, so the smaller the scale the more you should grey the colours).

So I think my “#29 Dark Earth” will make a fine scale chocolate brown.  It’s also what I use to paint my rail, so I have lots of it.

Anyway, I’m off skiing for a week, so I’ll give you guys a peek at what the colours look like when I get back.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Re: Jefferson General Store

I never could quite square my OCD with having a 6-pane transom over the front doors and a 5-pane transom over the rear freight door.  And since scratching a sliding freight door isn't that much harder than cutting down a Tichy 8125, scratch it will be.

I'm doing the transom window and sliding door in styrene (to give nice clean lines), and the trim around the whole kit and caboodle in wood (to show a bit more weathering).

Cheers,
Jeff.

Some windows painted up; freight door transom scratched; freight door in progress; and boarding on rear of false fronts in progress.

Jeff,

Your Jefferson store looks good. Your attention to details, transom windows, interior details, i.e. picture in a picture frame, accurate framing pay off in a very accurate model. I can't wait to see it "planted".

Looks great!
I like the wall paper and door knobs. Oh and the pictures look great also.

A couple shots of the interior:

And the somewhat complicated light baffles/diffusers I needed to spread the light out and prevent reflections off the backs of the windows:
