Hancock coal platform

Don Peterson
Does anyone have the dimensions/footprint of the Hancock coal platfor? I don’t have access to any of my reference books. I think it’s in Poors book.

Or you could ask the folks on this train that's headed that way to take some measurements for you.

Nice picture. Too bad that line was abandoned years ago. It was a fun ride though.

Thanks for the dimensions! Happy Thanksgiving. Is there Spam on the menu?

Yep, 10' x 200' per the 1886 Bridges & Buildings book. Construction was similar (though dimensions were not to same) as the docks at Pitkin and Hortense, which we fortunately have pictures of. All three docks were not framed like the current dock outside the Alpine Tunnel shed built after the 1905 fire.

The Hancock dock is not listed in DL&G documents of 1890-1893 that I'm aware of, suggesting it may have been dismantled as early as the timeframe the Hancock depot was moved to Romley during September 1887. Parts of the Hancock dock may have been used to construct a small dock at Romley.

The photo is from August 8 1993, so more 32 years ago (when we weren't even 32 years old). I didn't remember whether you had a coal dock at Pitkin to include, but somehow I didn't take any photos of Pitkin then. And no, no spam on the menu. Probably tacos. If I lived where you did, I'd be more into the local cuisine. I can't get excited about poi and spam.

Todd, here’s my dock at Pitkin in On3. I think Jim Wing still has it. Thinking of doing Hancock in HOn3
