Georgetown

Chris Walker
Just in time for Christmas....

A previously unpublished and excellent view of the Northern end of Georgetown.

DPL X-1333

Some details stand out, with a different view of the W.T. and Sectionhouse.

A rather enlightening view of the Oilhouse and a Tank(Depot at right).

A interesting Kingpost truss across the Main to Silver Plume, carries a mine track out to a wastedump.

The hipped roof structure in Chris's second image is the Georgetown section house.

Re: Georgetown

Steffen
Hi all,

my name is Steffen from Germany. After some years of reading all the very interesting topics regarding C&S narrow gauge history I would like to join the group of writers now to add a Georgetown photo, published in Mineral Belt III.
I always wondered about track configuration at Georgetown and did not know that it was still a stub end station after extending the line to Silver Plume.
Jesse Randall mentioned a wye. Does anyone know where the wye was situated?

Hi Steffen,

The original Wye was in the centre of this WHJackson photo between the Depot and South Clear Creek.

Once the line to Silver Plume was put in, the Wye was moved North downstream of the Sth Clear Creek bridge, tailtrack still oriented to the East.

Chris,

thank you very much. Are these two box cars standing in the middle of Clear Creek?

Just found a nice little loading scene:

Steffen,

those boxcars are spotted on the trestle spur to the Miners Sampling Works.

Georgetown has one of those modeler dream switching spots, the track on the backside of the depot. Serving the freight house, some teaming, two warehouses (either side of that spur), two coal bins and a lime bin. A layout of the depot and that one spur (and the passing siding on the other side of the depot) could keep an operator busy for some time pulling and dropping cars. Modeler dream switching spot = railroader PITA spot.
