As many of you have already experienced, adverting has now begun to show up on the forum. For the last few years, I've (along with the help of a few generous forum members) paid a monthly fee to keep the advertising off of the forum for everyone. The hosting company Nabble no longer offers this feature. They have to make money to operate somehow. So unfortunately, advertising will be here to stay. This is after all a free forum with no charge for YOU to read.
I am however willing to support Nabble to keep this fantastic forum afloat. I've been in contact with them to come up with a solution. One of them may be an option for those of you who find the advertising offensive or an annoyance, which is to pay an optional $5 per month for a subscription to keep the ads from appearing on your screen. If you elect not to, the ads will still show. So the choice would be up to you. Anyhow, I just thought I'd give you an update. Some of my devices still don't show the ads. Which may be related to device settings for pop-up blockers IDK. |

They began to appear on my computer over the weekend. They appeared on my phone this morning.
I have found that closing the window on the front page with the "x" on the ad and then refreshing the page instead of providing information google wants after clicking the "x", the front page remains ad-free for a time. That doesn't seem to work on the following pages. And now they will probably find a way to close that little loophole. $5 seems a bit high, but looking for another free hosting site which would probably also be temporary and having to move everything would be a real pain in the ass. So, I guess we'll just have to buck up and deal with it. Thanks for the heads up, Darel. |
For me here it seems to be at random such as none on one page and then several pop up on the next page. All good to me since I ignore that sort of stuff anyway.
Cheers to our Host

My Ad blocker seems to work OK.

I enjoyed three deployments to Afghanistan. I think I can handle some
advertising. Do what you gotta do.

I thought I had ad blockers on both of my devices. Wonder if any ads hawking ad blockers will be among the swill of unwanted garbage that parades through not just nabble but other sites as well.

Any other philosophosophizers in this bunch ?
Does anyone else ponder the "why ?" of human behaviors ? Take for example, ... I was in L.A. and took the kids to Disneyland. I never went as a kid, and by-and-large, I hate the commercial-led BS that IS our culture, so missing out on anything Disney has never been a problem for me, but I digress .... So, you go and buy your ticket/passes and get in line for a ride. The ride consumes say, a 5 minute block of time. The line is 1000' long and takes an hour to get from the back to the point of going on the ride. Nowhere on the entire Disney property were people NOT complaining about the time spent standing in the lines. Now, just suppose for a moment that a person could reverse the sense of pleasure to enjoy standing in line for 60 minutes and find the 5 minute spent on the ride being the annoying waste of time forced upon them until they could get to the next line to enjoy standing in ? a. a person would have a 6:1 ratio of fun-to-annoyance b. they could eliminate the 6:1 ratio of doldrums and hate-to-fun ratio, AND c. they could avoid the $150 per-person cost of admission, and just go stand in line ANYWHERE, or make their own ! ======================================= I find advertising to be a similar "game" of how I choose to see the intrusion and the way I place my own values on how I let this external "thing" affect how I react. Most advertising is mindless and boring. Some of it is for something I *might* actually be interested in, and occasionally I find the level of clever used to dream it up or produce it is amusing to downright awesome. Many times that "awesome" comes in the form of how BADLY it portrays us as humans. But one has to take a big step away from "the screen" to see the deep irony. Just some idle thoughts while waiting for the next batch of great old photos and discussion to distract ....

Doncha get tired of AMBULANCE CHACERS,squirrels throwing pine cones, and medicines with weird names like Adelimubab?

Actually, I find humans a comtemptible lot for sucking up the BS
of Disney fantasy, be that drug ads where all people do is walk on beaches or embrace well-behaved children (no one ever works), or the overall culture lean toward vinyl siding and self-driving Tupperware cars .... we, as a whole, are an absurd joke, worthy of much laughs and humor, SHOULD we CHOOSE to see it. Most advertising is pretty funny, if you consider just how stupid it is, the product is, or what morons it is designed to appeal to.
