Following the C&S from Quartz to Midway Tank (video)

Kurt Maechner
The previous video I posted followed the C&S Right-of-way from Pitkin to Quartz.  This one picks up at Quartz and goes to the collapsed Midway Water Tank.

Enjoy!
Kurt

Kurt,  I was surprised that the light engine running at track speed did not rock back and forth more on the "low joints" on the track.  The section guys must have jacked up those low joints(pot holes).

By the looks of it, those trains hummed right up that grade !

Great to see this part of the line.  It has never got much attention
from photographers.

Tom, yes the section gang has been working hard on the track.  Now, if we can just motivate them to get up to the Palisades to fix up a bit of rock work, then we can finally get these Baldwin coal trains up to the tunnel!

-I agree!  I was poking through my C&S books and found no photos between Quartz and past Midway Tank.  It's too bad as there are some spectacular sections of 'shelf' grade on such a high up side of the valley.  They would have looked even more spectacular back then when there were fewer trees on the downhill side.

An amazing photo would have been of a coal train on the line taken from down in the valley.

Much of the Gunnison extension never had photos taken,
and being the weirdo that I am, these are the sections that
fascinate me most.  I would love to see LOTS of photos of
anything west of Garos, especially from the Congdon era.

The  valley,as taken from the grade is really spectacular .It would be nice to see both sides of the grade and not just the grade itself.

My favorite is the area around Weston but includes Red Hill and Platte River.

Kurt's photos show some of the valley but could it would be good  to show the winding path the creek takes.Lots of neat waterfalls near the  grade.

Does the old Alpine & South Park toll road follow the creek in the valley?
