Elk Creek Then and 1988

Ken Martin
There have been some Then and Now threads. Have wanted to do this and I finally found the slide I took in 1988 of Elk Creek. I climbed the hill to copy the picture in a stereo view.

I tried to match up a few photos at Elk Creek last summer, but between highway fill and trees, I didn't have much luck getting to the right spot and being able to see anything. These ones are at least close:

How about the worker reading a book with a stove with the coffee pot in the background. Are the huts for workers or is there a small mine nearby? Paul R.

What a gem, Todd.  That before shot has to be one of the coolest railroad pictures I've ever seen.

In fact, I might build a diorama of it (just to scratch my "early years" itch)....

I like the composition, and the guy sitting in the foreground makes for a nice 3D effect when viewed in stereo, but I like this view a little better:

Excellent much appreciated.  Been there 3 times and this helped put the pieces together.

Thanks Cameron

About a half mile south of the Elk Creek Bridge I found the grade to be essentially unchanged. Only the tracks and some weed control measures were missing from the scene.

These are awesome before and after shots!  Thanks for sharing!  Here are a few shots from 1990/1991.

These may or may not be the same bridge:

The B&W photo is of bridge no. 18 near Elk Creek, so I think my photo is of that same one.

These are incredibly cool shots. Thank you so much for taking the time to go out and take the "afters".
