Dredge Operations

Does anyone know if the gold dredged out of the Breckenridge area was processed in Breckenridge or was it transported on the C&S to a specific area for processing.

Was it processed at all?  Isn't dredging looking for free gold, not gold-bearing ores?

The amalgam from the plates in the sluice boxes required cleanup, usually smelted in a small retort to reclaim the quicksilver and solidify the Gold. Then that would probably have been shipped out in a can as Express everyone else being none the wiser.  There is a full description somewhere.
