Denver Public Library Online Digital Collections Upgrade.

Chris Walker
Imagine to my surprise my saved link aka https://digital.denverlibrary.org/ to the DPL doesn't work any more, nor does every bookmark link to individual photos I have banked for future(and current) use or reference.

Many of my readers will note I rely heavily on the DPL, and History Colorado through them, for appropriate subject matter illustrating the moment, and I had included in my articles/posts links that are now redundant.

A quick email to the DPL yeilded this great response from Sarah Ganderup, and I post it here in case you have the same issue of "being lost".

how to migrate your links to the new site:

For the bookmarks that just have a title and collection (in your provided case "Leadville, 1937 - Photographs - Western History"), I would recommend searching the title at https://digital.denverlibrary.org/nodes/definesearch. If it is indeed a photograph, you'll limit your "Format" to "Photograph" and you will want to change your "Search For" to "Exact Phrase Match". See attachment "Search_Title" for an example.

For the link from your essay, you can temporarily access the old site by changing "digital.denverlibrary.org/" to "cdm16079.contentdm.oclc.org/". This will take you to the item as it is on the old site (CONTENTdm); using that information, you can do the same search as above. The old site will be deleted in May, so you will want to do this process before then.

One final thing to note: I noticed that your example (http://digital.denverlibrary.org/cdm/fullbrowser/collection/p15330coll21/id/12599/rv/singleitem/rec/9) was a photo from History Colorado, not technically from our collections at all. As part of this migration, we are no longer hosting collections for our larger institutions which can make these available on their own sites. Thus, for anything from History Colorado, you will want to go directly to their online collection and search for the item there. For example, here is their link for the above image: https://5008.sydneyplus.com/HistoryColorado_ArgusNet_Final/Portal/Portal.aspx?component=AAFW&record=7d9fafc1-0a70-4745-88e2-5f7da2ab2033.

I appreciate your understanding as we work to make our collections better preserved and more accessible in the long run, despite inconveniences and frustrations such as these in the short term.

I thank Sarah for her prompt reply and the ways to circumnavigate this issue.... looks like I have some work to do

Nice to hear they broke the system....
I have done a ton of posts over on the C&S Facebook group from the DPL. Fortunately I included the call numbers and those did not change so people can search from these. Not sure what I think of the new photo interface- looks harder to copy zoom ins. History Colorado would include all the photos prefixed CHS (right?) wonder if there are any other collections affected.
