DSP&P 1880 car lock for sale

Kurt Maechner
If anyone has 3500 dollars sitting around, there is a stamped 1880s DSP&P car lock for sale on eBay here.  The seller describes it as "uncleaned and as found".  Boy, would I like to find something like this on the ground!

Interesting. That's not a boxcar lock, it's a switch lock. It's also made identically to UP locks.  C&S switch locks fit UP locks all the way to the end system wide. Here are two very similar C&S locks. The one on the right came from Sam Speas, who brought it back from Como as a souvenir in 1937.

He may not know it's a switch lock, but for all I know, he may not be too far off on it's value.

I know the back story and he has a very good reason for selling them, I think I would have as well given the option.

That is I understand how much thery go for.

He has convinced me that this is actually a car lock, as it has a "C" stamped on the reverse, and that the lock itself is backwards from the UP Switchlock and key style.

I have read that this old railroad stuff is becoming collectible.
