Cleaning Track

Keith Hayes
Long on my to-do list to improve operating reliability is giving the track a good scrub. A couple years ago, I bought a CMX car, and ordered some Andrews trucks from PBL to support the brass sled on Sn3 wheels. Last fall, I picked up some Rail Cleaner from Aero and Car Hobby Lubrication.

Today, I put it all together and ran over all the track. The C&S B-4-E just could not pull the CMX car up the hill, so management reached out to the D&RGW and arranged to borrow a K-37. The 37 can pull the CMX just about anywhere. A photog captured this rare shot right before the train passed over Indiana Gulch.

An audible sigh of relief was heard from Downunder when the loco made it across the bridge. C&S crews still have yet to add those extra stringers!

Did the Engineer walk across the Trestle to take that photo, Keith?

That K-37 looks like it can handle it.  But isn't it a tad big? I know that some much of the C&S had track the probably couldn't support the weight of the bigger locos. Lol.... Just kidding. That big loco looks good.
