That’s quite the high-contrast paint job in the full picture.  Is that a modern “interpretation”, or was the Leadville roundhouse really painted revival colours at some point?

(Not that I model Leadville, but it left me curious….)

That shot of Leadville Roundhouse occurred around the early 1980's.

Art Mitchell, at that time a BN gandydancer, was in Leadville doing some work and cut both a round and intertwined trademark stencil before the track crew went up there. They gave it to the assigned crew up there. According to Art, they "went crazy" and began stenciling everything in sight, including the fuel tank and the outhouse, as well as shed doors, etc.

Art and I were both furloughed (he'd be called extra) at the time and working for the GWR out of Loveland, Colorado.

Yes, this was when the line was part of the C&S but not as early as one would think. The Roundhouse was painted a plain white at the time, if memory serves me correctly.
