1975 C&S News (part 1) - Charles Ryland, Stolen engine bells, Loop bridge studies, 1903 Loop footage

Kurt Maechner
I looked through the archive of the Rocky Mountain Rail Report, the newsletter of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club and put a post together with some more miscellaneous South Park Line/C&Sng news from the 1975 editions including:

Historical Thefts
Charlie Ryland's home was broken into and some railroad items, including a Colorado Central rail pass were taken.  Also, an engine bell was stolen from an engine at the CRRM.

Early C&S footage shown
Footage of Kenosha Pass and a 1903 film of the Georgetown Loop were shown at a presentation.

Does anyone know of the Otto Perry footage of Kenosha Pass mentioned in this newsletter?

DSP&P book reprint is underway

The reprint that was formerly resisted finally gets going as the "Memorial Edition" after M.C. Poor's passing.

New South Park book
Gordon Chappell, Robert Richardson, and Cornelius Hauck write the Colorado Rail Annual entitled "The South Park Line."

Enjoy!
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

The only footage that I know of was in the Video "Excursion to the Thirties" produced by WB Video.

There might have been some in the DVD "Colorado and Southern Narrow Gauge" which featured some Otto Perry footage.

Another one to check is "Across the Top" by Sunday River. It's a collection of film clips.

"From the 1930s we get to watch the ore trains descend from the Blackhawk Mine on the Colorado Central to Clear Creek. The South Park Line is shown with quadruple headers battling upgrade through South Platte Canyon. We also see the last passenger train from Leadville to Denver."

The South Park Line is shown with quadruple headers battling upgrade through South Platte Canyon.

As I recall, the quadruple header footage includes a couple of the leased D&RGW C-19s . . . and it is beginning to snow!!

in a nutshell, so to speak....cracked me up when I listened to that summary, all those years ago.
