Hi all,
In the Harry Brunk Up Clear Creek book on the Black Hawk Station article there is mention of Rick Steel 1916 Town Blue prints. Are these Sanborn maps or "other" info. Are they available on file anywhere in digital format? Thanks for any information. Martin Wade HMR Railway |

I believe that would be the government valuation forms. They are not really blueprints but do have drawings of the general track arrangement and such things as the culverts and building dimensions. We had posted them over in the C&S Facebook group. I think you were in there from what I saw. This post shows them in JPG https://www.facebook.com/groups/ColoradoandSouthernNarrowGauge/permalink/2186911588129954/ In the files under "Black Hawk 1, 2 and 3" are PDF files that show details. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ColoradoandSouthernNarrowGauge/files/files I can check with Rick about posting them here but it would only do JPG files and those do not read nearly as well as the PDF's

Thanks very much Jim,
I had stumbled across a couple of these documents at the facebook site but forgot their reference. I used your links and now have all the documents and will start working through deciphering the cursive writing. I have a building contractor in my train group so if its just terms he should be able to help me as well. Sorry for delayed response but very much appreciated the data. Martin Wade HMR Railway |

Martin, use the search bar and input Black Hawk. You will find very clear Sanborn maps and a number of topics discussed over some time.

Thanks Keith,
I have already download the full Sanborn maps in TIFF format which is enormously details when you magnify. I thought, I had pretty much read everything on Black Hawk in this forum and then I found the one I missed on the Black Hawk Station being 28ft vs 38ft. I was just about to post that question figuring it was already answered and sure enough there it was. This afternoon, I hope to post my layout draft for Blackhawk on a roughly 14' bench. Been working on it for some time and about ready to display and wait for commentary. Stay tuned. Again to everybody, thanks for all the information its been a great resource. Martin, is there a specific year(s) you're targeting for Blackhawk? Or focusing on more generic representation?

Interesting story on the 28' vs 38' on the station. Harry Brunk had published his plans based on the info in the Colorado RR Museum annual on the Clear Creek "Narrow Gauge to Central and Silver Plume" which showed 38." After that Rick Steele unearthed the valuation forms in the national archives. (amazing how much time he spent on that- pre internet) they showed the correct 28.' Not sure if the 38 was simply a misprint or error in the annual but that was really the best early source out there and Harry used it extensively. To be honest there are a couple of photos out there (and reproduced in the annual) that have beams stacked on the end platform that throw off the proportions of the photo so much it appears wider than what it was. ![]() ![]() ![]()
