1880's Garo-Trout Creek Pass Operations

Southpark
As stated the question is, what was taking  place in the early 1880's on west bound DSP&P freights?  Lime stone was being shipped from the Fairplay area on the London Jct branch as per newspaper reports.  How much coal from King was going west?  Coke from Como? Lime stone and coal could go to Leadville by way of Buena Vista for smelter use.  There was also a spur at Garos that angled south east for a shot distance, probably for lime stone from that hogback at Garos. The WB grade from Garos to Platte River tank, station and wye is on the "down grade" side but out of Platte River you have the heavy grade to the top of Trout Creek.  Were helpers used WB out of Platte River, turned on the Pass to run light to Platte River to turn on the wye for another WB? Any facts around?  I notice that the akli at Platte River, has all but obscured the space  view .  Check Antero, USA road 285 curve just east of Boxcar Loop road, and go east to Platte River.  See page 176 of C&S Railroaders for image.  All of this would be before the High Line over Boreas was in use. By the way, Garos is a railroad location, Garo is a post office name and Garo is a Park County name.   Tom Klinger
